‘Violent’ protests halt Mamelodi train service

Thousands of train commuters were left stranded.

Thousands of Metrorail train commuters were left stranded at the Eerste Fabrieke train station in Mamelodi on Monday because of violent protests.

Taxi, as well as bus commuters, were also affected by the protests in Mamelodi and Nellmapius.

Informal settlement residents in the area blockaded streets in the early hours of Monday morning in a service delivery protest.

Trains scheduled for Pienaarspoort had to be turned back at the Eerste Fabrieke train station, said Gauteng Metrorail.

Mamelodi Gardens and Pienaarspoort train stations were also affected.
