INFOGRAPHIC: Fuel price goes up Wednesday

Motorists will have to dig even deeper into their pockets as the fuel price increases.

As if the VAT increase was not enough bad news, the Department of Energy has announced an increase in the price of fuel.

From 2 May motorists will have to dig even deeper into their pockets as both grades of petrol, 95 and 93 (ULP and LRP), increase by 49 cents while diesel 0.05% sulphur and 0.005% sulphur rise by 59 cents and 58 cents a litre respectively.

Illuminating paraffin – wholesale – will rise by 52 cents, SMNRP by 69 cents, and the maximum retail price for LPGAS by 70 cents per kilogram.

The department said the reasons for the increase were the weakening of the Rand against the US dollar and increase in Brent crude price.

“The Rand went through a period of volatility in April, mainly due to concerns over the China/US trade tariff dispute that put pressure on the currencies of emerging markets,” said the department.
