Robbers posing as workers rob woman in the east

“They found the 69-year-old woman and her domestic worker in the house, ordered both into a room at gunpoint.”

Men posing as construction workers robbed a 69-year-old woman and her domestic worker in Lynnwood on Friday.

At around 12:25 three men dressed as construction workers parked their white Ford in front of the house, according to police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach.

They pulled out a ladder, climbed over the wall, opened the gate for the bakkie and then walked into the woman’s home where they found her with her domestic worker.

Weilbach said the door and security gate into the house were unlocked.

“They ordered both into a room at gunpoint and instructed them to keep quiet.

The suspects ransacked the house and fled with two laptops, a TV, jewellery and an undisclosed amount of cash.”

Weilbach said the men did not raise any suspicions since there were numerous construction sites in the area at the time.

She urged residents to familiarise themselves with their neighbours.

“Good neighbourliness encourages neighbours to inform one another about activities such as planned construction, or even if they will be away on vacation or business for a certain period.”

Weilbach said neighbours should keep an eye on each another’s property and know the names, addresses and telephone numbers of their immediate neighbours.

“Knowing the neighbour’s domestic workers and gardeners will also help to identify strangers on the neighbour’s premises.”

Weilbach said a house robbery case was under investigation, but no arrests have been made.
