Young TMPD cop found dead in his flat
“A colleague who stays in the same complex with him decided to go check up on him and that is when he made the gruesome discovery.”
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has suffered yet another blow as they lose another officer in a short space of time.
Constable Thinus Swart (29) was found in a pool of blood with a bullet wound at his flat in Hercules at around 11:00 on Saturday, said TMPD spokesperson Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.
Colleagues were concerned when Swart did not report for duty today and made numerous phone calls to get hold of him, to no avail.

“A colleague who stays in the same complex as Swart decided to go check up on him and made the gruesome discovery.
“He found Swart lying in a pool of blood, with his service pistol next to him.”
Mahamba said an inquest docket had been opened by the SAPS for further investigation, although the possibility of suicide had not been ruled out.

He said Swart was known as a hard worker who was passionate about his work.
Swart was stationed at a drug unit under the crime prevention section at the time of his death.
“The TMPD is still in disbelief, as his death comes on a day when the department is burying another constable who was killed during a business robbery in the past week,” said Mahamba.

“The TMPD would like to extend deeply felt condolences to Swart’s family, colleagues and friends.”
