Deutsche school top achievers shine

The top five achievers have done their school proud with their outstanding results.

The Deutsche Schule Pretoria (DSP) class of 2017 has proven that hard work pays off, with the head girl setting a good example by obtaining 10 distinctions.

The school’s top five achievers, head girl Jessica Wolf; Thomas Hettasch; Lulu Feuerriegel; Lucy Mamabolo and Daniela Prinz have done the school proud with their outstanding results.

Wolf has shown that not only does she possess good leadership skills but she has brains as well.

According to Wolf, it was challenging to balance her busy schedule and studies. However, the motivation and encouragement from teachers, family and friends carried her through her final year.

“Wolf’s secret to success is that she dares to dream, is ambitious, believes in what she does and in herself,” said school spokesperson Anja Schlüter.

She has enrolled for a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at Stellenbosch University in the hope of becoming a doctor and possibly working for Doctors without Borders in Germany.

Hettasch obtained eight distinctions, excelled in the maths Olympiad and was awarded a silver certificate by the SA institute of physics for his performance in the physics Olympiad.

Schlüter described him as a keen unicyclist, robotics fanatic who enjoys programming.

He is going to study mechatronical engineering at Stellenbosch, which will pave the way to a career in robotics or automation.

Hettasch’s role models are his parents and, despite his various successes, he believes winning isn’t everything.

Feuerriegel obtained six distinctions, but has not decided on a specific path yet and intends on taking a gap year, preferably in Canada or the US, to gain some life experience.

Her first love is music, art, design and languages.

She takes her inspiration from her father.

With five distinctions is Mamabolo, who showcased her head for figures during the maths and accounting Olympiads.

She will be studying her BCom (Accounting Sciences) degree at the University of Pretoria.

“She would like to qualify as a CA and hopes to follow her passion by branching out into performing arts,” said Schlüter.

“She believes she has to choose a career that will make her get up early in the morning.”

Prinz, who obtained five distinctions, has her sights set on doing volunteer work in Tanzania, where-after she will commence her studies in medical engineering in Germany.

Prinz believes in working hard and never giving up and enjoys a good workout in the gym, tutoring and playing the piano.

DSP is a German international school based in the Willows catering for learners from kindergarten to Grade 12.
