UPDATE: Murder charges after North West women’s disappearance

No bodies have been found yet.

Three people were arrested on murder charges on Thursday in connection with the disappearance of the two women from Mooinooi in the North West.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mpeile Talane said no bodies were yet found, but information had been obtained that led the police to charge the three with two counts of murder.

They also faced charges of robbery, kidnapping, the unlawful possession of a firearm.

Anisha van Niekerk (30) and Joey van Niekerk (32) went missing on 10 December. They left for a funeral in Pretoria, but never arrived.

Talane said: “We are still appealing to the community to be on the lookout and to call Warrant Officer Christiaan Robinson on 014 574 5000 with any information.”
