VIDEO: Slow start to EFF march to Israel embassy in Pta east

A Woolworth's store in the Pretoria CBD was reportedly shut down by EFF.

The much-anticipated EFF march in Pretoria today got off to a slow start.

Members gathered at Kingsway Park in Lynnwood to prepare for the march to the Israel embassy about 300m away, to demand freedom for Palestine.

On Thursday morning EFF members reportedly shut down a Woolworth’s store in the Pretoria CBD and called for all the store’s other outlets in Sunnyside and Lynnwood to close down for the day.

Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said the march was peaceful.

“Numbers of EFF members are expected to increase in the next few hours. No incidents have been reported yet,” she said.

She said there was a heavy police presence at the scene.

EFF president Julius Malema is expected to join the protest.

Malema said the mass march would raise a number of issues, including:

– That South African government provides free higher education from 2018 onwards.

– Jacob Zuma must step down as president of SA.

– The Gupta family must immediately leave South Africa.

– The national director of public prosecutions Shawn Abrahams must step down.
