East school learners design own outfits

Head of department Mymie Oosthuizen said the fashion show was a celebration of the learners’ talents.

Parents were surprised and delighted when they saw the creative outfits designed by their primary school children at a fashion show recently.

This show, called the Green Heart fashion fashion show, was held by Grade 7 learners at the Maragon Olympus primary school in the east of Pretoria.

All 55 children took to the stage to strut their stuff and showcase their unique outfits – which they designed without any help from their parents.

“I’m very proud of each and every learner of our school,” said Maragon Olympus primary school principal Phillip Brand.

Karen Meerholz, also head of department, said the fashion show was an expression of life.

“The children took something and made something which gives people life. There was no inhibition,” said Meerholz.

She added that the fashion show was part of their Art subject , where each learner had to design an outfit for marks.
