McBride in city court over alleged assault

McBride is accused of assaulting his daughter. He faces charges of child abuse and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Independent Police Investigative Directorate head, Robert McBride, appeared briefly in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

McBride is accused of assaulting his daughter. He faces charges of child abuse and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The former Ekurhuleni police chief’s defence asked for postponement.

The prosecutor said more time was needed for investigations and to retrieve the video footage of the alleged assault.

The defence said that the state had a month to finalise this.

The magistrate extended McBride’s bail and ordered him to adhere to the bail conditions which include that he is not allowed to make contact with witnesses.

The matter was postponed to 24 October.
