Comedy show entertains

The show offered residents the opportunity to spend quality time with their companions while having a laugh-out-loud primitive lesson in love, dating and relationships.

Comedy enthusiasts were treated to the popular Defending the Caveman show at Atterbury theatre in the east of Pretoria on Friday.

The solo comedy is one of the longest running and most successful in South African theatre history.

The show offered residents the opportunity to spend quality time with their companions while having a laugh-out-loud primitive lesson in love, dating and relationships.

The hilarious show, the brainchild of actor and comedian Rob Becker, was adapted for South African audiences by Tim Plewman.

Plewman, who dons his best caveman outfit and steps into the role as comedian extraordinaire, has more than 40 years’ experience in the theatre business.

Once called the “perfect date comedy”, this educational comedy is about the “every person” and explains why problems between couples are very rarely personal, and are in fact general problems that all couples experience.

The show, involving half-music and half-play, explains and pokes fun at the stereotypical differences between men and women, and hopes to bring laughter back into all relationships.

“This is a must-see show,” said audience member Elza Swart.

The play’s overwhelming audience support proved it was still relevant.

The show recently won the Vita Award for best actor in a comedy.
