Runners raise more than R100 000 for Sungardens hospice

“Thank you to each and every person who supported our annual Race of Hope today.”

More than 3 500 runners participated in the Race of Hope at The Grove mall on Saturday.

Over R100 000 was raised in aid of Sungardens hospice.

The event was held in partnership with Run Walk for Life and was sponsored by the Grove and Pick n Pay.

Runners could take part in a 21.1km, 10km, or 5km race.

The Grove mall marketing manager Monique Harmse said she was pleased with the turnout and support shown by runners who took part.

“Thank you to each and every person who supported our annual Race of Hope today,” said Harmse.

“We are proud to host this event to raise money for Sungardens hospice. You have made a difference by participating.”

Pick n Pay north regional marketing manager Karen Jordaan said she was overwhelmed by the support shown.

“The vibe was excellent and the turnout was good,” said Jordaan.

“We are proud to be associated with this initiative and we hope the beneficiaries go from strength to strength.”

Run Walk for Life chairperson Daan du Toit thanked Pick n Pay for supporting the event.

“An event like this is part of nation building,” said Du Toit.

“We cater for anyone who wants to partake in recreational activities and what you see here today is part of a rainbow nation.”

Pam Madoa, the winner in the 21.1km ladies race, said she was content with her race.

“It was tougher than I expected. I’m happy I made it,” said Madoa.
