Metro confirms water cuts for Lyttelton

Water interruption due to maintenance

Residents of Lyttelton in Centurion are being hit with yet another water interruption, the Tshwane metro has confirmed.

The metro said in a statement this interruption was occasioned by maintenance and upgrading of its water networks.

“The metro will carry out maintenance and upgrading work to a supply network at Clifton Reservoir. This essential work is planned for nine hours from 08:00 until 17:00,” the city said in a statement.

In the past week the City cut off water supply to Centurion and south of Pretoria for what it told Rekord was due to a leaking pipe in Gerhardsville.

“The residents of Centurion and south of Pretoria are experiencing water supply challenges due to a leaking pipe in Gerhardsville. The affected areas include: Mnandi, Copperleaf and Gerhardsville currently.”

These constant water interruptions come against the backdrop of the City implementing level 1 water restrictions as previously imposed. The City said these restrictions were in line with the water supply by-law.

“The metro as well as the entire Gauteng is a water-scarce area with limited access to this precious resource, primarily via bulk water supplier Rand Water,” said metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba.

“As such, we must always be conscious of our water consumption and be careful to conserve it.

“Water conservation simply means using our limited water wisely and caring for it properly.”

Recently the metro was hit by a streak of water leaks, and it has previously linked these leaks to ageing infrastructure.

Areas that will be affected by the latest water interruption are:

– Die Hoewes (all extensions)

– Highlands 359-JR

– Kloofzicht

– Lyttelton 381-JR

– Lyttelton AH (all extensions)

– Lyttelton Manor (all extensions)

– Zwartkop 356-JR

“The metro apologises for the inconvenience that may arise as result of this planned maintenance work.”
