Toastmasters host open house event

Other speakers discussed the various pillars that encapsulate the core ethics of the Toastmasters.

Toastmasters Vital Communicators recently hosted an open house event themed “Pathways to success” in Groenkloof, Pretoria.

As part of regular meets, the event was set up for engagement between the current and future toastmasters as well as explaining what the nearly 100-year-old club can offer the modern ambitious individual.

Keynote speaker and councillor Micheal Shackleton is a proud member of the Toastmasters and accredits his many accomplishments to the club.

Shackleton is a distinguished Toastmaster (the highest honour a Toastmaster can achieve), aerial director of the year (20/21), and long-serving board member for Toastmasters South Africa.

“I had a bad stutter when I first started here, I wasn’t good at public speaking and I didn’t have the skills I do today. It was through being in this safe and productive space that I was able to become much better at what I do,” Shackleton said.

Other speakers discussed and practised the various pillars that encapsulate the core ethics of the Toastmasters. These include leadership skills, prepared speeches and impromptu speaking. Guests were required to attempt the last pillar as the Toastmasters believe that skills are best development with actual practice.
