Mabopane young man receives wheelchair on birthday

This donation was extra special because Ntuli shares his birthday with the late former President, Tata Nelson Mandela.

Birthdays are special but sharing a birthday with a legend is even more special.

In that regard, Tshwane metro donated a wheelchair to Katlego Ntuli, who shares his birthday with late former president Nelson Mandela.

The family of the 19-year-old living with cerebral palsy approached the Department of Social Development and Community Services to indicate that the young man was an orphan and had outgrown his old wheelchair, according to Tshwane metro spokesperson Azwihangwisi Mphidi.

Mphidi said a new wheelchair, suitable for Ntuli’s body posture, was found as part of the metro’s “efforts to bring about positive change on Mandela Day”.

“This donation was extra special because Ntuli shares his birthday with the former president. So we got to celebrate this brave young man’s birthday.

“In my capacity as social development and community services MMC, I would like to thank the family for reaching out and allowing the City to make a meaningful difference in this young man’s life,” said Peggy de Bruin.

De Bruin said her department would continue to encourage and support families who love and care for people living with disabilities.

“I am pleased to have been part of the celebration of the young man’s birthday shared with our national icon Madiba.”
