Beware: truck-jacking common in Akasia

“Hijackers will hold the driver at gunpoint,”

Akasia police said hijackers have been targeting companies that come to the area to deliver goods, in particular trucks parked at factories in Rosslyn.

“Hijackers will hold the driver at gunpoint,” said Akasia police spokesperson Constable Lindiwe Mabasa.

“They will then instruct them to drive to an isolated location where they would then rob them of their personal belongings as well as the truck.”

After various such hi-jacking incidents involving trucks in the area recently, police are warning truck drivers to be vigilant.

“We appeal to truck drivers to rather be safe by reporting to the police station when delivering goods and ask for escorts in cases where they suspect criminal activity or when delivering during odd hours.”

She said the station commander Colonel Magugu Ginindza will engage with the companies involved in an attempt to help curb this scourge.

In the meantime, Akasia crime prevention with the assistance of a trio unit planned weekly operations that will make regular patrols around the industrial area.
