265 busted over weekend in Tshwane district

Around 1 914 persons and 759 vehicles were searched while 25 Aarto fines were issued by traffic law enforcement officers to the value of R13 250.

A total of 265 people were arrested during multi-disciplinary operations held in Tshwane over the weekend, police have said.

The operation ran from Saturday evening to the early hours of Sunday morning, according to police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk.

Several law enforcement agencies were involved in the operation, including the TMPD, the Department of Correctional Services, emergency medical services, the Department of Home Affairs and the provincial traffic department.

This was in addition to private security companies such as ADT Fidelity and Tracker.

Those arrested included 93 people for gender-based violence, 25 for driving under the influence of alcohol and 13 undocumented immigrants.

“Seven illegal shebeens were closed and 96 bottles of 750ml liquor were confiscated. A vehicle was impounded when it was found that the engine number was tampered with.”

Brigadier Samuel Thine, of the district commissioner’s office, thanked all the officers for their commitment to ensuring a safer environment for Tshwane residents.
