Man arrested with three unlicenced firearms

Police will investigate whether the three firearms were linked to any crimes.

A 35-year-old man was arrested in La Montagne after being found in possession of three unlicenced firearms earlier this week.

Two police officers were patrolling the area on Monday evening when they spotted a red VW polo TSI skipping a red traffic light.

“They chased the vehicle and it was stopped at the intersection of Frank Chipane and Simon Vermooten streets,” said Silverton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Isaac Mculu.

“While searching the car, the officers found three firearms hidden under the vehicle seats. The firearms were seized.”

Mculu said police would investigate whether the firearms were linked to any crimes.

The man will be appearing before the Pretoria magistrate’s court on Thursday.

Silverton station commander Colonel KD Swanepoel congratulated the two police officers, Constable Chiloane and Constable MA Hamese, for the good work done.
