Culpable homicide investigation follows tragic Boschkop crash

Four people were killed in a crash on the N4 highway between Donkerhoek and Boschkop.

A culpable homicide case has been opened to probe the deaths of four people that succumbed to fatal wounds when a truck drove into a minibus trailer on the N4 highway between Donkerhoek and Boschkop, two weeks ago.

According to the police reports when the fatal crash happened five people were standing around a trailer guarding their belongings.

The trailer had a punctured tyre and the minibus driver drove to seek assistance.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Yeroboam Mbatsane said the truck driver detailed in a statement that he did not see the trailer or people on time due to the trailer allegedly not having lights.

Mbatsane said the truck driver reported the matter immediately to the police and stated that “he had no intention to kill the four people”.

At the time of the fatal crash the minibus and driver were not at the scene.

“The minibus driver was not at the scene. He went to fix the flat tyre of the trailer. The lights on the trailer were probably not on as the minibus was not there.”

The people were on a long distance trip out of Pretoria.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said just before the early hours of Friday morning, March 11, paramedics responded to the scene of a serious collision.

“Four occupants of the minibus were declared dead on arrival of paramedics, one other suffered moderate injuries and was treated and stabilised before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care,” he said.

The trick driver did not sustain any injuries.
