‘Good news’ for Tshwane residents experiencing water outages

“The department hopes this intervention will accelerate the restoration of water and we hope to see an improvement in the morning when a further update will be provided.”

The Tshwane metro has confirmed that most reservoirs are showing good signs of recovery, with water still being restored to most residents, following widespread water outages in the area.

There were still, however, a few reservoirs that were struggling to fill up, Energy & Electricity, Water & Sanitation, and Regional Operation & Coordination, MMC Phillip Nel said.

“To assist the struggling reservoirs, the water and sanitation department has augmented its water supply system by isolating healthy reservoir zones.”

“They are now diverting water flow to the struggling reservoirs.”

The struggling reservoirs are:

– Mooikloof Reservoir

– Constantia Park Reservoir

– Waterkloof Ridge X2 Reservoir

– Mamelodi R4 Reservoir

– Carina Street Reservoir

– Cornwall Hill Reservoir

Nel said the department had hoped this intervention would accelerate the restoration of water to residents.

“We hope to see an improvement soon. The metro apologises for the long recovery period and the inconvenience caused.”

The water supply to several Pretoria suburbs was plagued by an outage over the past few days.

Rand Water began pumping at full capacity after the City of Ekurhuleni restored power supply to its Mapleton Booster station on Wednesday.

Last week, the booster station suffered low levels of water due to Eskom’s transformer that tripped.

This led to the water supply to Tshwane’s Vlakfontein reservoir running low and leaving several suburbs without water for almost a week.

On Wednesday, the Tshwane metro said the Ekurhuleni substation supplying power to Rand Water’s pump station was restored and running at full capacity.

“We should again see a build-up and improvement in levels at both Rand Water’s and our reservoir this evening (Wednesday), with gradual restoration of water to all of Tshwane.

“We ask again that residents use water sparingly during this period to best protect reservoir levels,” the Tshwane metro said in a statement.
