Metro launches recruitment drive for job-seekers

Once beneficiaries were selected, the process of contracting applicants would be managed by the EPWP division with the community and social development services department.

The Tshwane metro has launched a drive to recruit thousands of job-seekers for short-term jobs.

The job-seekers would have to be registered on the expanded public works programme (EPWP) database to access the presidential employment stimulus programme which offers jobs for a limited period of six months.

“As part of the programme, the metro has been allocated R146 215 000 by the national treasury to create 9 000 work opportunities for a period of six months,” social development and community services MMC, Peggy de Bruin said.

The Community and Social Development Services Department will recruit applicants from the existing EPWP database that has 150 000 registered job seekers.”

De Bruin explained that the metro would implement its lottery recruitment system (electronic random draw) to ensure that the process was aligned with their values of fairness and transparency.

“The system works independently without any influence by electronically selecting applicant from our EPWP database,” she said.

Once beneficiaries were selected, the process of contracting applicants would be managed by the EPWP division with the community and social development services department.

“Registration on the database remains open,” De Bruin said.

“Job-seekers must be between the ages of 18 and 60 and they should bring along a certified copy of their identity document and proof of residence which must be attached to the registration form.”

Registration forms were available at the EPWP division, office G03, Ou Raadsaal Building, Church Square in the Pretoria CBD.

Registration would be open Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00.

“It is truly our hope that employment opportunities will make a difference in the lives of the selected applicants,” De Bruin said.
