Suspected cable thieves arrested in separate incidents

In one incident, officers found two suspects busy cutting electrical cables.

Tshwane metro police arrested seven people this week for suspected cable theft.

On Tuesday, Tshwane metro police’s cable theft unit arrested people in Sinoville.

“The two males were claiming to be city of Tshwane sub-contractors and had fake appointment cards. They switched off electricity on a plot in Sinoville and demanded R10 000 from the owner. TMPD cable theft unit members responded to the complaint and managed to apprehend the culprits,” Tshwane metro police said.

The two were charged for fraud and tampering with infrastructure.

In a separate incident, five people were arrested by the same unit in Waltloo for cable theft. They were found stealing cables and loading into their vehicle, metro police said.

On Tuesday morning, Bull Security arrested two men for suspected cable theft in Garsfontein.

“One of our clients informed our control room of strange noises behind his premises in Garsfontein. Our units responded swiftly and on arrival, our reaction officers found two suspects busy cutting electrical cables,” Bull Security said.

“The suspects noted our officers and fled towards Solomon Mahlangu Drive. Our officers gave chase on foot and managed to arrest both suspects.”

Housebreaking tools were found in their possession.

The two men were handed over to Garsfontein SAPS, said Bull Security.

Garsfontein police spokesperson Warrant Officer Duane Lightfoot was not available for comment at the time of going to print.
