New Tshwane mayoral committee to be announced

“I am capable, willing, able and experienced to do the job with adequate credentials. Service delivery is my priority.”

Newly elected Tshwane mayor Stevens Mokgalapa is expected to announce his mayoral committee on Thursday morning.

Earlier this week, the ANC released a scathing statement saying the “clean-up of the problems in the city by the newly elected mayor may be a pipe dream due to ambitions by the white racist caucus of the DA, to wrest control over the mayoral committee from the mayor”.

“If Mokgalapa is unable to pass this litmus test we predict that the problems of this administration will remain stubborn and impervious to resolve,” said Maepa.

Speaking to Rekord Mokgalapa said that the ANC, as the opposition party, was entitled to its opinion.

Last week Mokgalapa told Rekord that he would meet with the city manager to discuss the contentious GladAfrica contract that was found to be irregular by the auditor-general, to find a way for the city to extricate itself from it.

He said he would not reveal much but the “GladAfrica issue would be dealt with within the next few days”.

The ANC had also said that the newly elected mayor was under pressure to retain the embattled city manager in a bid to appease the EFF.

Mokgalapa said he was “under no pressure from the EFF to retain the city manager”.

“I am capable, willing, able and experienced to do the job with adequate credentials. Service delivery is my priority,” said Mokgalapa.

He said the new mayoral committee would also sign performance agreements.
