Brooklyn police taking services to students

“It will reduce time that is spent in queues at the police station and there would also be no need to travel between the police station and the university grounds.”

Brooklyn police are taking their services closer to the student community during the registration period for the academic year.

Spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said students from the University of Pretoria could now access services like certification of their documents and affidavits on the same premises where registration took place.

Police officers will be available from 08:00 till 15:00 on weekdays until the end of January at LC de Villiers sports grounds.”

She said this would enable a quicker and smoother service to students.

“It will reduce the time spent in queues at the police station and there will also be no need to travel between the police station and the university grounds.”

The initiative was started five years ago when Brigadier Kushie Nair was appointed station commander at Brooklyn SAPS.

“She identified the need when she saw the long queues at the station.”

Weilbach encouraged students to make use of the initiative as it would also help to shorten queues at the station. “Quicker service can also be delivered to victims of crime who want to open cases,” she said.
