SPORT: Mamelodi Sundowns striker set for loan

Downs striker Thokozani Sekotlong is set for a loan move to get more game-time.

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Thokozani Sekotlong could go on loan next month to get more game time.

Sekotlong has found it difficult to break into the Downs’ starting line-up since joining the club from Free State Stars last August.

He has, however, featured prominently in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) league under coach David Notoane.

According to The Citizen, Notoane said Sekotlong was trying to use the MDC to get into the senior team.

“TK [Sekotlong] is using the space of the MDC to try and prepare himself for regular first-team action. I am sure out of his performances in the MDC, he’ll be able to attract some interest. Maybe to go on loan in January,” said Notoane.

The 27-year-old is fighting for a place with the likes of Phakamani Mahlambi, Jeremy Brockie and Anthony Laffor.

Since joining the Pretoria side, the striker has only made 12 appearances and scored twice.

In the MDC, he has seen much success scoring goals regularly.

Over the weekend, he scored twice to hand Sundowns a 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs at Tsakane Stadium.

Another Downs player who has struggled for game time is George Lebese.

The 29-year-old Mamelodi-born player has yet to start a game this season and many have predicted that he may be out of the club come next season.

Sundowns have their season back on track, after beating Supersport United at the weekend. They lie 3rd in the log, three points behind Pirates with three games in hand.

The Brazilians next take on Baroka FC at the Lucas Moripe Stadium next Tuesday.
