Compliance operation at east hostel blocks

Illegal liquor traders were arrested for operating without licences during the compliance operation.

Illegal liquor traders at Mamelodi hostels were arrested for operating without licences during a police operation on Friday.

“Fines were issued and illegal shebeens were also closed down for not having licenses to operate,” said police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso.

Maheso said this was a continuous operation that would continue throughout the festive season until next year.

“The operation has been operating in Mamelodi for several weeks now and we also make sure spaza shops comply with municipal bylaws.”

The operation also followed several complaints of assaults at the hostels, said Maheso.
