SPORT: I have always been charge of Sundowns – Pitso Mosimane

This comes after former Downs player Bongani Zungu made a claim that Rhulani Mokwena was the real boss during his time with Sundowns.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has made it clear that he has always been in charge of his side team “despite other people thinking otherwise”.

This comes after former Downs player Bongani Zungu claimed that current Orlando Pirates assistant coach Rhulani Mokwena was the “real” boss during his time with Sundowns.

Zungu, who’s now playing football in France, made a tweet last week which caused a stir.

The tweet was posted after Pirates beat Polokwane City 2-1. During the match, Mokwena had been seen dismissing Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic’s input as Pirates were about to make a substitute.

The incident was discussed on social media and Zungu, who worked with Mokwena before had much to say.

“Coach Rhulani has made Pirates a top team again, coach Rulani you the boss,” Zungu said in a tweet.

The Amiens midfielder also included former Sundowns winger Keagan Dolly to back up his claim that Rhulani was the man in charge during their time with the Pretoria giants.

“Trust me, it’s him. Even at Sundowns, ask Keagan Dolly,” read Zungu’s tweet, which has since been deleted.

Dolly, however, took his time to respond.

“For the past few days, I’ve been ‘knowing a lot’. I’ve tried my best not to get involved in this debate, but I feel like I should tell my side,” Dolly wrote on a social media page.

“My time with Sundowns was one of the best experiences in my career thus far. For me, personally, I feel like it was a team effort whereby we all had a common goal and our leader was coach Pitso! Although we had coach Manqoba Mngqithi and coach Mokwena having their input.”

In his reply to the whole saga, Mosimane said he didn’t believe that Zungu wrote the tweet.

“Honestly speaking I don’t think Bongani Zungu said that even Keagan Dolly knows that Rhulani was in charge at Sundowns. So what was I doing? Are you serious? Me?

“I coach my team. I have an article on Bongani Zungu that he did with Kickoff and he talks totally different, he said I’ve prepared him for Europe. He never said Rhulani prepared him so what is this? I stay with that article that I was the one who prepared him to go to Europe. I was coaching that team not Rhulani, I can make the record straight,” said Mosimane.

Former Bafana Bafana player and current Cape Town City was one of many who took to social media to lash out Zungu.

Pirates coach Micho also said he would have slapped the midfielder if he was his former player.

Zungu has since apologised for his tweets.
