Four nabbed after Silverton robbery

Pretoria police bust 51 people in weekend of crime.

Fifty-one suspects were arrested over the weekend for a number of crimes, including four men shortly after they allegedly robbed a business of a substantial amount of cash.

The four robbers were nabbed in Silverton following a well-orchestrated police operation on Friday afternoon, according to SAPS spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela.

Mavimbela said the suspects, aged between 29 and 37, had threatened staff with handguns inside a tool store before making off with cash, cell phones, a laptop and a notebook.

They were reportedly caught shortly after they had exited the shop. All the stolen properties were apparently recovered.

Two would-be getaway cars, namely a green VW Golf and a silver Renault, were also impounded.

The suspects were charged with business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

“The remainder of the suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from dealing in drugs and domestic violence to drunken driving, rape and theft,” said Mavimbela.

All the suspects caught over the weekend were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
