UPDATE: Mamelodi armed robbery suspects to appear in court

An internal investigation was also being conducted about a TMPD firearm that was recovered from the suspects.

Two men, who were arrested following a dramatic shootout with Tshwane metro police on Monday, are expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

The suspects, two of five robbers, were arrested during an armed robbery at the Sasol garage close to the Denlyn shopping centre in Mamelodi.

This is according to Tshwane metro spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

Another suspect was shot and killed in the shootout while two others escaped.

It was alleged that one of the captured suspects was a Fidelity Security employee.

Mahamba said TMPD officers responded to a robbery in progress, and a gun battle ensued between the suspects and two officers.

“A total of 93 cartridges were counted and one suspect was fatally shot.”

Investigations are continuing.

The possibility of more arrests cannot be ruled out, Mahamba said.

He said an internal investigation was being conducted about a TMPD firearm that was recovered from the suspects.

“The two TMPD officers who were involved in the fatal shooting are currently receiving counselling.”
