NEWSFLASH: East petrol station ‘robber’ killed in TMPD shootout

Two other suspects were arrested for armed robbery and attempted murder.

Tshwane metro police officers shot and killed a suspect during an armed robbery at a Sasol filling station in Mamelodi West in the early hours of Monday.

Metro police officers were patrolling at Denlyn Shopping Centre in Mamelodi when they were alerted to an armed robbery in progress at a Sasol garage, said Tshwane metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

Upon arrival, the suspects opened fire at the officers and a shootout between the officers and suspects ensued.

“One suspect was shot and killed during the shootout. Two other suspects were apprehended and arrested for armed robbery and attempted murder,” said Mahamba.

A firearm with an erased serial number was recovered from the suspects. The firearm is suspected to be the property of the TMPD.

He further said a Tshwane metro police vehicle was hit and damaged during the shoot-out, but no officers were injured.

Tshwane metro police department expressed their gratitude and congratulated the officers for their bravery and hard work.

“Well done to the TMPD officers for their outstanding service. We are very proud.”

The suspects will soon appear in court.
