UPDATE: VIDEO: Dros to cover medical bill of 7-year-old ‘rape’ victim

A 20-year-old man allegedly forced himself on the girl in the restaurant’s bathrooms on Saturday.

The Dros restaurant is to cover the medical bills of a seven-year-old girl allegedly raped in one of its franchises in Silverton.

It made the commitment after meeting the human rights organisation #NotInMyName.

The organisation had asked management about measures from its side to help the family of the victim improve security.

A 20-year-old man allegedly forced himself on the girl in the restaurant’s bathrooms on Saturday.

#NotInMyName secretary general Themba Masango said Dros agreed to pay the medical bills of the girl.

It would also cover the cost of counselling for her family.

Safety features in the restaurant’s play area would be beefed up.

Staff affected would also undergo counselling.

“We wanted to find out what measures they are putting in place to ensure that this does not happen again,” said Masango.

“We want to know that if we are coming to a restaurant, our kids are going to be safe.”

Masango said a statement released by Dros shortly after the rape was “nonchalant”.

The organisation’s president Siya Jentile said #NotInMyName would shut down the restaurant if it did not honour the commitments made.
