UPDATE: #NotInMyName to visit Dros over ‘rape’ of girl (7)

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped in the restaurant’s toilet on Saturday.

Civil rights organisation #NotInMyName will visit the Dros restaurant on Thursday to meet with the management following an alleged rape at the restaurant.

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 20-year-old man at the restaurant’s toilet on Saturday.

The organisation’s spokesperson Mo’ Senne said the meeting was prompted by the restaurant’s “casual” response to the allegations.

“We want to know why it is business as usual,” she said.

In a statement, Dros said it had offered assistance to the family of the child and asked that members of the public give police some space to investigate.

They said they would not give any more details because of the nature of the case.

Senne said #NotInMyName wanted to know what measures the restaurant had taken to ensure the safety of children after the incident.

She insisted the visit would not be a protest, but a way of facilitating conversation between management and members of the public.

“We want to know if we can trust them with our children again?”

The man appeared in the Pretoria regional court on Tuesday on charges of rape, intimidation and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The case was remanded to 2 October.
