Do you know which number to call in case of emergency?

“Also know what crime trends are currently used and be aware what to look out for.”

Residents in the west of Pretoria have been warned to keep emergency numbers handy and know who to call in times of trouble.

Police said residents should know that crime could happen to anyone at any time and “you must always be aware and ready when it does”.

“Also know what crime trends are currently used and be aware what to look out for.”

Police urged residents to always keep emergency numbers handy when something happens and to phone the police immediately.

There are three numbers that should always be easily accessible in case of an emergency:

– Nationwide emergency response – 10111: This telephone number is for any emergency that requires police response and can be dialled from anywhere in South Africa.

– Cellphone emergency – 112: This number can be called from any cellphone in South Africa. It will transfer your line to a call centre and they will route you to the emergency service closest to you.

– Ambulance response – 10177: This number can be used in the case of a medical emergency and can be called in conjunction with both the fire and police department respectively, depending on whether or not there are casualties.

Many cellphone applications have also been launched to help in an emergency situation.

One such an application is Namola.

This application uses GPS co-ordinates to track where the incident is happening and ensures that the nearest authorities are sent to attend to the situation.

This application is only available in Gauteng and is free of charge.
