Pretoria east man missing at Durban beach

It is believed that he was caught in rip currents while swimming.

The search is on for the 20-year-old Pretoria man who disappeared in the sea on Friday.

Andre Fletcher, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), Durban station commander said on their website that the crew were activated at 18:00 after reports emerged that a man had gone missing.

“NSRI Durban duty crew were activated following reports of a 20-year-old man went missing in the surfline at Durban’s North Beach after he had reportedly been caught in rip currents while swimming before disappearing beneath the surf,” he said.

He said the NSRI Durban and Police Search and Rescue conducted an extensive search on the scene but no sign of the man.

“Police Search and Rescue will continue in an ongoing search operation and Police have opened an investigation.”

The man‘s identity has not been released.
