UPDATE: Search continues for missing Brooklyn woman’s body

It is almost a month after Dawn Basdeo went missing and police are still searching for her body after they arrested her husband for her alleged murder.

Police say they are still searching for the body of a 57-year-old Brooklyn woman who was reported “missing” by her husband almost a month ago.

Dawn Basdeo was reported missing by her husband, Prem Emmanuel Basdeo (58), on June 8 after she left home for the hospital.

However, police arrested Basdeo a week later on suspicion of murder after her abandoned car was found in Soweto two days after her disappearance.

“We are still searching for her body,” said police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach.

Basdeo appeared in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on 26 June on charges of murder, perjury and defeating the ends of justice.

In his bail application, Prem denied killing his wife and insisted that he was also searching for her.

“My wife is still missing and I am also searching for her.”

He said his wife’s disappearance weighed heavily on him and asked the court to grant him bail to help ease his “emotional pain”.

Basdeo was previously acquitted of murder for the murder of his first wife, Neetha, in Durban 14 years ago.

Neetha was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a shipping container the family stayed in.

Basdeo and his son Jordan, who was his co-accused, were found not guilty.

His bail application was remanded to 20 July when the state is scheduled to present its case in opposition of bail.
