City chief of staff placed on special leave
Media reports allege chief of staff lied about qualifications on application form.
The Tshwane mayor’s chief of staff has been put on special leave while the metro investigated whether she was appointed improperly.
This follows recent media reports that chief of staff Marietha Aucamp lied about her qualifications on her application form for the R1.2 million-per-year position.
Despite its suspension, the city of Tshwane, however, defended its appointment of Aucamp in a press statement released today.
In the statement, metro spokesperson Selby Bokaba denied media reports that Aucamp claimed she had a B:Tech degree in her assessment forms or her CV.
It is “illogical and irrational for any applicant (like Aucamp) who was shortlisted, interviewed and scored highest in the interview as well as in the assessment to claim to possess qualifications she didn’t have”, Bokaba said.

“While it’s advantageous for the candidate to have the required qualification, it however doesn’t preclude a candidate to be considered for the position.”
“What is required is experience and grasp of local government,” he said, adding that Aucamp had 16 years’ managerial experience.
Bokaba said mayoral spokesperson, Samkelo Mgobozi had mistakenly denied that Msimanga was involved in the selection in a media enquiry.
“At the time when he responded he wasn’t appraised of all the facts,” said Bokaba.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have stopped a mayoral committee meeting in Tshwane today, demanding Aucamp’s removal, claiming she was appointed, and improperly to boot, because she is white.
“Black people out there are not hired because they do not have the specific qualifications. Why is this person so distinctive to deserve a R1.2 million pay salary per year … without nothing … without a degree… because of the colour of her skin? We are not going to tolerate that,” an EFF member said at the meeting.
