WATCH: Grand Loftus park complex opened
'This is a good opportunity for the metro to demonstrate its potency to the world.'
The long-awaited mixed-use green Loftus park precinct was officially opened on Thursday.
The project was born in 2013, but construction began only in 2016 while the first stage of operation began last month.
In a ribbon-cutting ceremony, mayor Solly Msimanga welcomed the development as an opportunity for the Tshwane metro to showcase some its potency to the world.

The centre has parking space for almost 2 000 cars and will see about 4 000 people being employed.
The final phase will include a hospital, a 4-star hotel with 200 beds, several sports retail shops and an office block.
Msimanga said the development would go a long way in helping to develop the metro into a world-class city that attracts investment.

“We have over a 101 embassies and high commissions in the city and most of them are here in this area. So, if we are able to give them a place of play where they can come and have meetings, the better,” he said.
“The more they see development taking place, the better they are able to tell their nations how well we are doing and it will boost the confidence not only for the city but for the country and the rest of Africa.”
Msimanga stressed the importance of partnerships with the private sector in creating job opportunities.
