Bid to rope Brooklyn cops into admission scam

She wanted a letter stating that she was in the employment of the Brooklyn police station.

A desperate attempt to secure a spot for her child in a Brooklyn school has driven a mother to imploring the local police to write her a fraudulent letter.

Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Weilbach said the mother did not qualify to enroll her child in a Brooklyn as she was not living or working in the area.

Under most schools’ admission policies, preference is given to applicants whose parents permanently reside or work in the area surrounding the school.

“She approached the Brooklyn police station to write a letter stating that she was employed at the police station.”

The police officers refused and explained to her that acceding to her request would amount to fraud.

“She then accused the police officers of standing in the way of her child getting into a top Pretoria school,” said Weilbach.

Weilbach urged schools to be wary of such scams, saying information  on application forms should be verified.

“Parents must remember that even if they have the best intentions for their children, providing false information to beat the system is  fraud,” said Weilbach.
