Mamelodi killer to be sentenced

His DNA samples were already on record after it was taken in connection with a separate rape case.

A Mamelodi woman killer convicted recently is scheduled to be sentenced next week.

Daniel Ntokozo Masango was in November found guilty of the murder of student Katlego Ndlovu from Mamelodi.

He was also convicted of kidnapping and rape.

He is set to be sentenced by the High Court in Pretoria on 26 January.

Masango was linked to the murder through DNA evidence. Samples of his DNA had been on record from a separate rape case.

The 23-year-old Ndlovu was murdered on 2 September 2014 and Masango was arrested on 4 May 2015.

Ndlovu’s naked body was found near the reservoir in Mamelodi East after she failed to come home from work.

The discovery sparked fears of serial killer roaming the streets of Mamelodi.

The bodies of two other women were found in different areas in Mamelodi on separate occasions in the same month.

One body was discovered behind a filling station and another in a dumpster in extension 6.

Angry residents insisted that Masango be denied bail when he made his first court appearance.

Ndlovu’s mother Eunice said the family of Masango had showed no remorse after he was found guilty.

She said she was happy about his conviction and hoped the judge would jail him for life.

She told Rekord her daughter was a loving person who was working while studying theology at Unisa.

“She did not deserve what happened to her.”

Eunice said her family wanted the trial to be done with in order to move on with their lives.

“It had been hard, because he [Masango] is a neighbour,” she said, adding that he lived only a few blocks away.
