BREAKING NEWS: VIDEOS: Shoppers told to avoid Menlyn Park mall after EFF vandalizes shop

Shop windows at a clothing store were broken and police cordoned off an entire level at Menlyn Park shopping centre.

EFF protesters have broken the shop windows of an H&M branch, resulting in the entire floor at the Menlyn Park shopping centre being shut down.

Police officers have been deployed to monitor the situation and safeguard shoppers, but they have no idea when the protesters would leave.

It is best that shoppers avoid the mall even though the situation is under control, police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt told Rekord.

Breedt said no injuries or arrests have been reported.

The incident comes after the international clothing company H&M came under fire for an advertisement showing a black child in a hoodie that read “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle”, sparking worldwide outrage on social media and other platforms.

The company has since released a statement apologising for the advertisement.

“We have a responsibility to be aware of and attuned to all racial and cultural sensitivities – and we have not lived up to this responsibility at this time,” their statement read.

“This incident is accidental in nature, but this doesn’t mean we don’t take it extremely serious or understand the upset and discomfort it has caused.”

Menlyn Park shopping centre management will release a statement in due course.
