"We are delighted with the distinctions. It exceeded our expectations."

Pretoria High School for Girls obtained 400 distinctions in matric exams last year.

“We are delighted with the distinctions,” said school spokesperson Kerry Du Toit. “It exceeded our expectations.”

She said 92.9 percent of the 270 learners who sat for the exams, scored a bachelor degree pass.

“The results were achieved on the back of hard work and dedication by learners and teachers alike.”

Teachers volunteered their time after school to help learners by proving extra subject support.

Courtney Truebody, who obtained three distinctions, said she was thankful to her teachers for the extra classes.

“It was easy to understand what they taught, and that reflected in the exam results,” she said. “Their support meant a lot.”

Kemisetso Phakathi, who obtained five distinctions, said she planned to pursue a degree in accounting sciences at the University of Pretoria (UP).

Hannah van der Linde was pleased that she was admitted to study an MSc in biological sciences at UP.

She said starting her preparation for exams earlier in the year had helped.

“Don’t wait for the exam time to start studying, start at the beginning of the school year so you don’t stress too much,” she said.

“Do some sports or take a break in between studying.”

“Our learners did very well and the teachers and principal are proud,” said Du Toit.
