Do you know this street robber?

“The student was punched in the face and they demanded his laptop, cell phone and other personal belongings.”

The SAPS Brooklyn are appealing for information that could lead to the arrest of a man who robbed a student earlier this year.

SAPS Brooklyn spokesperson Colette Weilbach said the student (26) was about to enter the University of Pretoria when an unknown man held him up at knifepoint.

“The student was punched in the face and the man and his accomplice demanded his laptop, cell phone and other personal belongings. Afterwards, they fled towards Hatfield on foot with the stolen items.”

The student received medical treatment for facial injuries. The student was able to provide a description of one of the robbers.

An appeal is made to members of the public to assist the police with the investigation by providing information that may lead to the arrest of the robber in the identikit.

“The suspect is a tall heavy-built man in his mid-twenties and he speaks Zulu.”

Weilbach said many men had reported being robbed in the streets this year, so not only women were targeted by criminals.

She said perpetrators mostly used knives to threaten and rob their victims and normally work in groups of two to four.

“There is no specific time frame for these robberies. They are committed during the early morning hours or late at night – or even in broad daylight.”

Most of the incidents took place in the surrounding areas of Hatfield and Menlyn.

In all incidents, electronic devices, mobile phones, or cash are the desired target items. Many of the robbers operated from vehicles which provided them with a quick escape from the scene.”

Anyone with information can contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Nakedi Kekana at Brooklyn police station on 012-366-1769/35 or Crime Stop on 08600-10111 or SMS Crime Line on 32211.
