NEWSFLASH: East hijackers on the run

The four men were on a hijacking spree in Faerie Glen on Tuesday.

Garsfontein police are looking for four men who hijacked two vehicles in quick succession in Faerie Glen on Tuesday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Captain Ilze Jones said the four armed men were breaking into a house in Faerie Glen when they were confronted by a security vehicle.

The men managed to escape in a VW Golf and a chase ensued.

“During their escape, the suspects were forced to stop because one of the car’s tyres had burst,” said Jones.

All four jumped out of the Golf and waited for the next car to approach.

“They hijacked a Toyota Hilux and abandoned the Golf on Glenwood Road,” she said.

“A few kilometres on, the driver realised that the bakkie was giving him problems. The hijackers decided to once again abandon the vehicle and wait for yet another car to hijack.”

Jones said the men hijacked a Fiat.

“The Fiat was later recovered dumped in Nellmapius while the bakkie and the Golf were recovered in Faerie Glen. It is believed that the Golf was stolen in Brooklyn this week,” she said.

“The suspects are still on the run and two cases of hijacking have been opened for further investigation,” Jones said.
