UPDATE: Donations needed for Salvokop fire victims

Many women and children were left stranded without food, shelter and other basics.

Many residents were left without shelter after a fire destroyed over 50 shacks at an informal settlement in Salvokop recently.

DA public representative Katlego Makgaleng said many women and children were without basic necessities.

“For this reason we will really appreciate any kind of support and donations for our people,” he said.

“Any donations would be greatly appreciated. We have secured a drop-off point at Jopie Fourie Primary school.”

The exact cause of the fire was unknown.

Rekord previously reported that a man was killed in the shack fire.

Police spokesperson, Captain Augustinah Selepe said a case of arson was open for further investigation at the police station.
