Father protests Pta school decision to expel daughter

Girl expelled from Pretoria school after numerous disciplinary action.

The father of an expelled Cornerstone College learner protested silently outside the school on Thursday morning.

The father and a few others who joined his protest held placards with the words “No to racism in our schools”.

“He is unhappy because his child was dismissed from the school,” said Cornerstone College director, Dr Hurlin.

Hurlin said there were two disciplinary hearings against the learner prior to the one which resulted in her expulsion.

“The learner was called for a disciplinary hearing on 14 February for taking indecent photographs in school uniform,” said Hurlin.

The second was on 15 August, called on the grounds of forgery on a newsletter, dishonesty and accumulated demerits.

It was decided that the learner would not be expelled.

“On 1 September, the third was held. Her father disrupted proceedings but after we spoke to him, he committed to the procedure,” he said.

Hurlin said it was after this hearing the expulsion was finalised.

“The father has lodged an appeal and it is being processed, that is why we are surprised by his actions,” Hurlin said.

Silverton police said they were not aware of the protest.
