38 nabbed in the east for various crimes

"More operations are planned and police are maintaining visibility."

A total of 38 people were arrested during the Tshwane east police operations recently.

The culprits were arrested for various criminal acts ranging from public drinking, assault, theft, malicious damage to property, fraud, possession of dagga and selling liquor without a licence.

Police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso said the weekend was marked by various activities, including celebrations for the arrival of spring, but the police managed to control the situation.

There was also a jazz festival at Moretele Park in Mamelodi that attracted about 20 000 revellers on Saturday.

“Only two cases were reported from the festival, a common assault charge and a car hijacking.”

Maheso said those arrested were aged between 14 and 40.

“More operations are planned and police are maintaining visibility.”

The police also advised the public to report any suspicious looking persons on 08600-10111.
