“We are saddened by the tragic loss of a metro cop who dedicated his life to serving the vulnerable and the weak in society.”

No arrests have been made after a Tshwane metro cop’s body was found in Pretoria on Saturday.

Constable Marvellous Hlungwane was found with a gunshot wound to his forehead in Princess Park, west of Pretoria.

“At the moment no arrests have been made, but the SAPS and the TMPD are continuing with investigations,” said metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

He said the motive of the killing was unknown.

Mahamba said Hlungwane’s murder had sparked anger and condemnation among police officers.

“A security guard was patrolling the area when he noticed a male lying on the ground with a bullet wound to his forehead.”

Mahamba said the security guard approached the man and found him unresponsive.

“The security guard then called the police and an ambulance. A firearm and a wallet were also found near his body.”

“We are saddened by the tragic loss of a metro cop who dedicated his life to serving the vulnerable and the weak in society.”

Mahamba appealed to anyone with information to contact the Pretoria Central police or the TMPD duty officer on 082-891-8625.

Hlungwane started his career with the Tshwane metro police as a student officer on 1 December 2013.

He was appointed as a constable two years later and was deployed to the taxi unit.

His memorial service will be held at the metro police headquarters hall, on the corner of WF Nkomo Street and E’skia Mphahlele Drive, on Thursday, 8 June.
