Union in motor industry to assist abused children

The Motor Industry Staff Association says anyone, including children, related to the retail motor industry, can seek help by sending an e-mail to the address helpachild@ms.org.za.

The Motor Industry Staff Association (MISA) believes it is in our hands to stop the cycle of neglect, abuse, violence and exploitation of children and launched the helpachild@ms.org.za to help victims.

Be the change you want to see in the world. Lead by example.

“Those are some of the lessons I have learned as a seasoned trade unionist and I have concurred many challenges,” said Martlé Keyter, MISA’s CEO for operations.

“What keeps me awake at night is the fate of women and children in South Africa, declared one of the most violent countries in the world. I won’t stop my quest for a sustainable solution as long as newspaper headings are reading ‘SA is a nation at war with women and children’, ‘#Saytheirnames: Growing calls for action on SA’s grim GBV crisis’ and ‘Suffer South African women, little children’.”

According to Keyter anyone, including children, related to the retail motor industry, can seek help by sending an e-mail to the address helpachild@ms.org.za. She said all requests will be treated confidentially.

“The criteria is that the assistance needed must help the child who is a victim of maltreatment, neglect or abuse, to improve the circumstances of the child. Last year, MISA reached more than 355 000 readers on Facebook during the Union’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign.

“To date, MISA has helped numerous victims with our endGBV@ms.org.za email address to help anyone in the retail motor industry who wants to report violence and harassment in the workplace. MISA wants to provide the same help to abused children,” concluded Keyter.
