• Host a family lunch

Give your dad the gift of quality time and invite him over for his favourite meal. If the weather allows, light the fire and braai his favourite cut of meat. Let him take home any leftovers so he can enjoy it later too.

• Create a relaxation gift basket

If your dad needs a bit of time off, give him a basket filled with everything he would need to help him unwind from the comfort of his own home. Pack in things like slippers, a cosy robe, some biltong, a six-pack of beer (or his drink of choice), a good book he has been meaning to read, or a one-month subscription to his streaming platform of choice.

• Create your own home DIY gift

Those with DIY-loving fathers could make their dad’s proud this year by building him a DIY gift of his own. His heart is sure to swell with pride when he finds out you put in the time and effort to make him something by hand. Consider things like a simple shoe rack, a wooden storage box (for his braai supplies or tools), or wooden coaster blocks.

• Spice up his life

For those with any cooking ability, what dad wouldn’t love a homemade braai spice bottled in a personalised jar with his name on it? You could also prepare his favourite homemade jam, or gift him a tin of freshly baked cookies.

“However you choose to spoil your dad, remember that the key to any gift is the thought and love that goes into it.

If you keep your father’s interests and preferences in mind, whatever you do is sure to make him feel cherished and appreciated,” said CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa Adrian Goslett.
