LETTER: No refuse removal, no service

Resident asks if Rand West City Local Municipality's refuse removal department even exists?

• Leilani Ludick writes:

For the past two months, refuse has not been picked up by the municipality in Randgate.

People came and tore open the bags and then everything was just left like that. When we enquired with the local councillors about who is going to clean this, the answer was; ‘clean it yourself’.

We do clean but the bags aren’t picked up? I saw the ‘pick-it-up’ truck come past once, stopped next to the bags, didn’t take one bag, and left again.

Why must we pay for refuse services?

You can’t tell us that there is a ‘technical problem’ when the bags aren’t collected, but the truck stopped and drove past it, what excuse are you going to give for this?

There was a schedule sent out for when the bags will be collected. I must mention that the dates/ times given were Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. What happened when the truck collected the refuse bags during the week?

No wonder there is a ‘technical problem’, the staff must then claim overtime because they must work on a Saturday and Sunday.

When you phone the municipal offices to enquire about this, they never answer the phone. Just a waste of time and money.
