Randfontein resident Caroline Setsiba who works in the office of the Executive Mayor as Strategic Support is a firm believer that the world is your oyster and has taken on an acting role in a local drama series.

Setsiba featured on a local drama series The Return which aired on 1Magic on DStv from April 17 to April 20.

She played the character of Mama Q which is about an elderly woman in the neighbourhood who takes interest in the news of a missing young woman and is one of the witnesses to a murder.

Speaking to the Herald in an interview, Sestsiba who is not new to the TV screens said acting has always been her passion from the age of 14.

“I’ve always wanted to pursue acting and I started acting when I was 14 and I was doing theater work at the time. I’m a storyteller and being part of the creative industry is something that goes back a long way and it’s not new to me. Having been featured in this drama series is quite interesting, especially knowing that the viewers will be watching me. I felt ecstatic when I finally knew that this product is gonna make it through to the viewers on the national screen or even across the continent,” said Setsiba.

She added that she is not new to the world of acting and has previously appeared as the supporting cast on another local drama series called U Bettina Wethu.

According to her, this is in addition to being part of an Adidas advert and other roles as well.

She said that she hopes that her work over the years will serve as an inspiration to both the young and old members of the different communities in Randfontein and across the country.

“What is most important for me having appeared broadly on national TV is the inspiration that I want people to take from me, which is that they can be so many things. People need to diversify themselves and not be stagnant and confined to smaller spaces. I want them to know that they can do more as long as they can still see the sun shining,” said Setsiba.

A string of Setsiba’s work includes her being featured as a background cast member on SABC 3’s Isidingo.

She is also a founding member of the Cultural and Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCIFA) and is also the secretary to the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) Task Team.

She has made appearances internationally and has delivered a global literacy project in the United States of America (USA).

Apart from this, Setsiba has also traveled to France, as part of the Creative Industry Delegation and has also received international recognition in Nigeria.

While this may seem like a lot, it is just the tip of the iceberg, as Setsiba is also a multi-award recipient.

She has received an African Renaissance Personality Award, a lifetime achievement award, and a Doctorate of Philosophy (political science).

Setsiba is also a published Author of a book titled, A Colourful Dialect.
